old pictures

#1

Post by Paul S »

I have several old pictures that no longer show other than a small box and the word image. I suspect this was as a result of a software change at some point. If I right click that and then go to 'inspect' I can see a link to the image source that is still live. Is it possible, do you know, for me top tinker with this so the image shows again?

Do you have an example post with an image that is not working? Are these images stored on Agaveville, or are you linking to the images on an image hosting site? By any chance are you using Photobucket for an image host? In 2017, this once popular image hosting site stopped allowing external linking to hosted images for free accounts. They require a paid account now to display images on an external site. Other images hosts may require the same.

Here is a link to one of the posts, there are other a bit further down.

viewtopic.php?t=3941#p12839

The images are originally on my website, I pasted the image URL into the post and linked from there.

Should be this one in that particular thread.

Image

Edit - aha! It doesn't embed for some reason. Right click, inspect, right click the link to open in a new tab works but is rather clumsy. Is it my end or this end?

The image in this post and all the images in the linked post are all showing up for me.

A second thought:

I do notice that avageville.org seems to be enforcing "https". For example, if you go to agaveville.org using "http" it is redirected to "https". Some browsers might not like "mixed security" content on https pages. That is, if the page is using https, some browsers might not load content on the page that is referenced by http.

In this case agaveville.org is using "https", but your oasisdesigns image links are using "http". I'm wondering if the browser you are using might have issues with this.

I don't have an answer for your problem but I just wanted to confirm that it's doing the same problem for me as you mentioned.

They are showing fine for me too, suggestive that it could be on your side possibly with some of the security settings as toditd suggests.

I cannot see them, unless I post image URLs directly into my browser. Tried it from Firefox and Edge.

It could be a security issue on your server, preventing (in this case) Agaveville from stealing your bandwidth by displaying pics. It's an option most server software provides.

As my previous reply tried to explain, the problem is due to the browser's handling of mixed security content. Mixed security content is when an https (secure) page is trying to display or use content from a http (non-secure) source. Many of today's new browsers don't like to display mixed security content. Some browsers have options to control this.

For example, if you are using Firefox you can do the following:

1. Select the "Firefox/Preferences" menu.

2. Click on "Privacy and Security".

3. Scroll down to "HTTPS-Only Mode".
Here you have three options to control how Firefox will handle mixed security content.

If "Enable HTTPS-Only Mode in all windows" is selected, then Firefox will NOT display mixed security content in ANY window, unless you configure an exception by clicking the "Manage Exceptions..." button.

If "Enable HTTPS-Only Mode in private windows only" is selected, then Firefox will NOT display mixed security content in a private window, but Firefox will display mixed security content in a normal (non-private) window.

If "Don't enable HTTPS-Only Mode" is selected, then Firefox will allow any window to display mixed security content.

(The above is based on desktop version of Firefox version 115.9.1esr. Your mileage may differ.)

^ Sounded good, I was all in. But I just played with it, and nothing I do on that Settings page makes a difference. And my FF was already on 'Don't Enable...'.

That's strange. I tested the settings on my Firefox and it behaved as expected under all three settings with both private and non-private windows.
