I'm so excited about this bloom!
I have 2 of these Mangaves. They are about 3 years old, in North Texas. This is the first time they are both blooming. Does anyone know what I can expect? Size? Duration? I am anxiously waiting to see what happens.

I can't answer your questions, but have one of my own. How cold have those plants handled?

It was 9 degrees for a couple days this past winter. Before that it got down to zero.
But I always put a big tarp over them if it will be below freezing. Here's their baby pic.

My ovatifolia x mangave bloomed and produced two pups. Don't remember the cultivar name. Neither has grown in two or three years. I have trouble finding them in the agavescape.

The only nursery near me that had more a handful of mangaves always had a bunch on the clearance rack last fall because I guess they didn't sell. And I only know of one house that has one in the front yard.

Those two look very good, and appear similar to the Mangave called 'Falling Waters'. It is leaf hardy to 9F.
I look forward to seeing photos of the inflorescence and flowers, if you can be bothered to do so when the time arrives.
I have seen seedlings of 'Falling Waters', (selfed, I think) that look like Agave ovatifolia but with spotting like a Manfreda. So, you could have some fun trying to self-pollinate the flowers if you want to enjoy growing a crop of next generation plants.

That's pretty good as Falling Waters is listed as 25F degrees at its hardiness temp.MJP wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2024 4:58 am Those two look very good, and appear similar to the Mangave called 'Falling Waters'. It is leaf hardy to 9F.

I planted one last year that didn’t make it through 11 degrees this winter (and lots of snow). Hoping it sprouts from the roots but it’s not made an appearance so far. Planted another this spring which should get a little bigger before winter.jnewmark wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2024 3:39 pmThat's pretty good as Falling Waters is listed as 25F degrees at its hardiness temp.MJP wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2024 4:58 am Those two look very good, and appear similar to the Mangave called 'Falling Waters'. I think the smaller stock follows the sun. In the morning, it leans to the right, by afternoon it leans to the left. By evening it straightens out. Everyday it does this. The larger stock stalk doesn't appear to move. Just an observation.
