Thanks for the info on the Louisiana plants at your parents place Melt. I have a montana and an ovatifolia Vanzie that will go in the ground next spring. Gentryi jaws would be a great plant to but I have read it's a very slow grower. I have a total of six different Agaves in the ground now. Two have been through several winters they are Mateo and bracteosa and two ( splendida and some form of americana) went through last winter just fine. The other two are americana Opal I think and scabra which will be facing their first winter here. Im fast running out of places to put Agaves. I want some little ones to use as fill ins around the larger ones but most of the smaller ones I don't think would like our winters.

Thanks again

Bob

'Jaws' is not too slow, really. You can probably get one in a 5g size for not too much money, and have a pretty large plant in a couple more years in ground.

Then I'll just have to look for one, but finding one in a 5 gal. pot would be tough around here. Maybe Cactus King nursery in Houston would have the larger size. Got to get back to that place next spring.
Thanks again Melt

Sorry, this is more of a trading post, and while we are willing to sell plants, and put packages together than include seed, we don't sell small seed packages by their lonesome.

Me want one, even tho I'm learning that AZ domesticates are so not easy in S CA.

Also Deserticolae. The A. mckelveyana I got from you in 2015 bit the dust the week, shriveled and black.

Shot you a PM a little while ago...

And just say no to soggy rain! A. delamateri will manage moisture better than A. mckelveyana.

I like mckelveyana but I'm not going to replace it. I already replaced the A. deserti v. simplex I once got from you because I still love the form & color. Gotta cut my losses somewhere.

Thinking in the long term I'll probably make a corner that will get covering for winter rains. I'm trying to have as few plants permanently in pots as possible.

If you haven't already, raise the area like Fred did in Carolina for some of the more rot-prone varieties you can't pull yourself away from.

Almost my whole garden is on a slope (most of it more sloped than I'd like) so that's not such a problem. More of a problem is keeping really well-draining soil from washing down the hill.

I now have several small Cylindropuntia ×campii pieces available, which broke off when I had to move the plant. I would just toss 'em, but I know this is a fairly rare, highly sought after cholla.

Current batch of A. weberi striata pups. Hard to tell from the pic, but the variegation is not right on the plant toward the upper left. It's sortuva lemon-lime striata. It may attain normal variegation as it continues to grow, but I sincerely doubt it. The other four, for all their apparent differences, will almost certainly grow into identical clones. This is a smaller, slower growing plant than normal A. weberi, but may still attain an impressive girth of 8'.

I have this from you & it's doing nicely.

Agave americana striata can also be very variable in how the striations manifest on diff plants.

Is there a chance of any of the true angustfolia seed still being available?
