Let bloom season begin! I also have a second A. ocahui, which may be about to bolt.

Thanks for the update pics.
Do you remember how long from go to whoa for the sobria? Did it offset much during it's time?

Oh, probably about 3 months. And A. sobria is generally non-surculose. Most, including this one, do not offset at all.

Re: A few shots around the garden...
Excellent news, a second A. ocahui is also tossing a stalk. I wish they were better synchronized, but there will be substantial overlap. Here's hoping for 50K seed. I've also included a couple other gratuitous garden shots.

I wish they would 'stand up and take it like a man'. LOL It's an awfully big agave to go flopping around on its side.

Re: A few shots around the garden...
Here is a newly reoriented A. attenuata. It had been leaning so severely that only a large rock used as ballast for the past 2-3 years prevented the pot from going over. So I pulled it up, pulled out a bunch of roots, damaged more roots by compressing with my foot in the pot after reorienting, then added a bunch of fresh soil. Pot had been about 75/25 roots/soil.
It may look a bit lame to some of you, but in my experience, even growing under the terrible conditions described, it looks better than most attenuata in central AZ. This is a not a good place for them. No doubt it would shell out some coin for a ticket to San Diego, if only it could afford it. I'll say this, we're looking at one tough SOB here. We'll see if it recovers from today's abuse.

Nice. I’ve seen a few trunking attenuata in South Texas, how old is that specimen?

Stalks coming along. That 12' Emerald Envy is surrounded by other plants, and will undoubtedly prove a nightmare to extract later this year. In the meantime....

Re: A few shots around the garden...
I am thinking about taking the stalk on my emerald envy down this weekend now that it is supposed to get hot. Will see how motivated I am. It is a beast and while clearly on the way out, not nearly as dead as needed to make for easier removal of the whole plant.
It is what it is!

Re: A few shots around the garden...
Take the stalk (leave a 2-3' for a handle), then start the laborious process of leaf removal. It took me three days to strip all the leaves off my weberi (my EE is every bit as large as that gigantic weberi w/35' stalk -- it may actually outweigh it). You don't have to do it all at once, and leaves cut off much easier while green.
I may be able to wrap my winch around mine at some point, but it is completely surrounded by other plants, so tough to reach no matter.

Re: A few shots around the garden...
Yeah the leaves are easier when still green, but the rest... better if it sits and desiccates for a while. Main thing is once I take the stalk down I need to deal with the bulbils...

Gee.S, will you let the plants open pollinate? I would guess that ‘Emerald Envy’ is going to do whatever it wants unless you get a monster of a ladder.

Re: A few shots around the garden...
Dunno about pollination here. Bees might get dizzy from the extreme height. Well, we'll see what develops, but a 30'+ stalk wouldn't surprise me.

Re: A few shots around the garden...
It is easily a thirty feet stalk. I had it flower at the same time as another Agave (bovicornuta x colorata) and they were right next to each other and were buzzing with bees most of the time - nada no seed pots on either Agave. 'Emerald Envy made bulbils though. Tomorrow might be harvesting day. If I do I will let people know for those who want some.
