I bought this last year and I swear its the blackest of this type I've ever seen. In later day light shade? Its like that new black paint that absorb 99% of light!
I was talking to a seller of these, who suggests based on experience that the more light they get, the more black. In lesser light, they get a more purple than black coloring. That's not to say there aren't variants - just mentioning what I was told.
This one seems a bit touchy..wilts in hot days, and I don't think its a fan of this potting soil its been in since last year. Unlike all others I've seen..this one has no purple mixed in. Just a matte black.
Yes, I can imagine that the black color absorbs heat like crazy, and that's probably why the wilt. I would imagine a situation with morning sun, and shade the rest of the day is probably right for them. Good drainage and frequent watering also likely helpful.
I saw this today and it knocked me out since its much like mine...matte black and you can see,not as robust as the other types. Interesting. I was taking a pic of the yard so,I forgot to zoom in..but you can see fairly well.
