iPhone landscapes are good, it's the portraits that cause issues.

I tried the technique described in the Sideways Photos thread, i.e., rotating the original image four times in a photo app and saving it. Here is the result. Didn't work for me. This is really getting frustrating. I've posted several iPhone photos recently and wasted far too much time messing around with rotating them in Windows 10's Photo app, trying to get one to work. In the past I've been able to get one saved--rotating it one, then two, then three, etc, etc. times--that would work. Today I just gave up after posting a photo sideways that still looked OK (Agavaceae Gallery, Agave 'Blue Glow' var. 'Snow Glow' thread).

I am running out of solutions for this sideways photo problem. Did someone, in the detailed conversations here about the problem, mention a setting I can change in my iPhone? Suggestions welcome.

I actually added a routine to the forum that automatically rotated pics to no good end. It has since been removed.

There are only two sure-fire ways of which I am aware.

1. Only upload landscapes and not portraits directly from your phone.

2. Copy portraits to a computer and reorient before uploading.

This is what I've done ad nauseam, to no effect. I'll keep working on it.

You'll need to open and save in Photoshop or some such before uploading.

I take the photo with my iPhone, email it to myself, save it in Windows 10's Photo app, and use that version to post here. When I save it in Photo, it's right side up. Trying different versions of the photo rotated 90 degrees left or right worked in the past, but I couldn't get it to work today.

Well, when you don't want to bother routing through your PC, just shoot as a landscape, and it will always be oriented properly.

I just stumbled on a work-around for this vexing problem of the ghost of Steve Jobs or whoever deciding that my iPhone photos need to be rotated when I post them on this forum. Here is what I did today that worked:

1) email the iPhone photo (taken in portrait orientation) to myself

2) open the photo in Windows 10's Photos app, the default for my Outlook email app

3) right click on the photograph, in the dropdown list click on Open With, choose Paint, and click OK

4) save the photo as a JPEG in Paint. Save it as is, no rotating or other editing required. This file uploads in proper orientation to Agaveville.com.

What works for me with iphone:

1. open photo on iphone, click "edit"
2. crop ever so slightly, save.

That's it!

OK, well new problem: max file size is 5mb and iphone captures at various sizes depending on the photo but often over 5mb and up to 10mb... so now I can't upload from my phone at all.

It is always the portraits that go sideways, never the landscapes.
