almost all photos are from a single large (huge) colony at the Huntington. This colony is right near a larger (higher) colony of Puya berteroana which has very similar flowers, maybe a bit greener, but the plants are much larger… and P berteroana blooms about 3 weeks earlier… but frankly, they look otherwise the same. Other colonies of Puya alpestris as the Huntington go through name changes now and then (from P coerulea and back, and then change again) so I have not included those colonies.
