Euphorbia obesa

#1

Post by Geoff »

Very commonly available species with a curious spherical to tall columnar shape in time. May sucker, often does not. Prone to rot if injured from trauma or cold, or overwatered in winter, but otherwise a very easy plant. No spines or knobs, its smooth surface is gently carved with transverse, linear ridges framed by slightly raised, well spaced ridges running from top to bottom, all topped with a tiny head of flowers most of the year (either male or female). Very curious and ornamental plant. Plant is only cold hardy to about 30F. Below that it is prone to cold damage... though can briefly survive frosts of a few degrees lower if warmed up soon after.

Loving all those swollen fat trunks in this thread.

Mine is just a small pup that I added to my collection this summer. With time and care he will hopefully start to put on some weight.
