There seems to be some disagreement as to N. wolfii or N. parryi ssp. wolfii.

I'd vote for leaving wolfi as a sub. I took these today. They were huge - the photos just don't do it justice. They grow in rough terrain and were hard to get to. I was looking for them for like two hours, on a wrong slope, which is standard for me. It is so interesting to see how some plants are so strict about where they grow while others grow almost everywhere.

Rough terrain is an understatement! Fabulous pictures.

How do these differ from the plain species - is it size? Floral? Or geography?

Paul, both, size and geography. Nolina parryi wolfii is like Nolina parryi on steroids. I took the pics in the Kingston Mountains, San Bernardino, CA, which I believe is the nothern most location. The range is surrounded by desert bed with dominant Yucca brevifolia which is with altitude substuted by Y. schidigera and further up joined by Y. baccata. Nolina parryi wolfii grows above them all, with schidigera here and there. Found patches of old snow about 100 meters below where Nolinas started to appear.
