I've been to three of these locations for funkiana, as given in the book, and this is the plant growing there. But is seems fairly widespread and I've seen it elsewhere, too.

The plant in your picture does resemble it a bit, rather too green and too densely suckering, but mostly when people ID a plant as funkiana it isn't.
That looks like an Agave montana x gentryi hybrid

Thank you for posting your habitat photos. Repost or not it’s always appreciated. I enjoy seeing real world in comparison to the tissue cultured “selections” sold in the store.

Three of my best Agave montana. They’ve grown very well this year due to all the rain we got last ‘summer’ here in the UK.

Here's a progress report on my A. montana 'Baccarat', last shown in my October 4, 2023 post above. This photo was taken today. The plant has shown little if any sign of wilting and dying over the 7 1/2 months since I sawed off the emerging inflorescence. It apparently isn't aware that it's supposed to die now. I've seen this persistence of an agave that's spiked before, in A. angustifolia marginata.

I'm a simple surgeon, an animal kingdom kind of guy. I tend to stay out of the plant kingdom taxonomy wars. :D

I'd take a guess that, as a surgeon, your eyes work ok? Scroll up a bit - there's some lovely montana. More an identity crisis than a taxonomy issue.

But for sure a bee in my bonnet. :D

ccm, your Montanas should do well at your latitude in the UK, I would think. It's one of the hardier species.

Yes I’ve never had any problems with them so far. I was going to plant one out but went with other options due to space constraints. There is one more raised bed left though which I might use for my biggest montana.
