$10 Macrozamia moorei
I’ve been eyeing this Macrozamia moorei for 6 years at a nursery south of Houston. Back then the price tag had already disintegrated but showed $4XX. I stopped by this weekend to look around. The fronds had burned from January’s freeze but showed green at the base . It survived 2021 as did specimen in Austin so I wasn’t too worried. I inquired what would they let it go for given its length of stay and questionable health. The manager stated she thought it was dead but a 30 gallon container costs them $10. So I bought the $10 container that came with a dead plant.

I had to chisel through a few layers of limestone, but it’s in the ground.

Here it is now. I covered it with a canvas tarp when we dropped to 27°F(-2.8°C) with a hard frost. We are possibly dropping into the teens next week, so there may be no way to save the fronds this year.
