Psuedobombax ellipticum

At least 12 years old. Could in the 15 year range. As I became a better gardener,it became a show plant. What a coincidence.
Dormant right now.

Stan, have you managed to get any blooms from this plant so far? I have come across some tiny seedlings with blooms, on the internet, which I thought was not possible. Jkw

No blooms. Maybe this year. Coaxing blooms out of fat plants seems harder than getting growth. I'm marginal in the summer heat is the cause.

Mine bloomed yearly but in Tarzana (LA)... now that I'm up in the high desert, I think heat is not the problem, but perhaps lack of a 'warm' winter. Lives through winter in garage fine, but no more effort to flower, despite plenty of heat (move it in garage for about 3 months a year)

It got nipped this year..but previous it was fine. I thought for sure it would flower last year..just foliage. I have a hard time getting heat needy plants to flower. I have a 5' P.lamerei that sent out a flower stalk..and it never made it to bloom when he had a frost the last week of December. That stalk had reached size in September..then stalled.

I suppose the small plants I saw with blooms were probably moved into a warm environment to produce the flowers. Or perhaps they were from a tropical climate anyway. Jkw

I have two plants. One in the pot and the other I planted in the ground yesterday.

This one I will keep in pot and develop a bonsai...
