Reason #4,374,231 Ya Gotta Love Fouqs

They just do their own thing, on their own schedule, and leaves and flowers don't always agree; and they just don't care.

First flowers from one of my Fouquieria shrevei today....or should I say "Flower" (singular). Not a leaf for months, and really still in Winter.
Love it!

Hilarious. And way cool.
Agave
"American aloe plant," 1797, from Greek Agaue, proper name in mythology (mother of Pentheus), from agauos "noble," perhaps from agasthai "wonder at".

It’s interesting how they will decide to store up and use energy.

Maybe not quite as out of season, but my F. macdougalii has started on some flower buds:

Flower progress, should be soon I think. Not sure why, but it dropped all its leaves despite getting plenty of water because of the wild flower watering I am doing.
