Re: Agave durangensis
A. durangensis is really rare in captivity. Nice Martin! Are they smooth to the touch?

Re: Agave durangensis
That's what I was kinda wondering. To me, both those plants look a lot like A. asperrima. Take a look tomorrow, see how they compare to yours. See how my little guys and Alex's plant have substantial marginal spine teats? Your marginals don't and look like those of A. asperrima. I'll take a look myself in a couple weeks if you're around.

Re: Agave durangensis
From Gentry: "When not flowering it [A. durangensis] may be confused with A. scabra [A. asperrima] of the Section Americanae growing in the same region".
So, I guess that explains the resemblance.

Re: Agave durangensis
I pretty sure that these are Agave durangensis, after what Ron just wrote above, and after talking with Mark Sitter, Who informed me that he knew where the seeds were collected, and who collected the seeds (Mr. Joe Simcox). I going to keep them as A. durangensis. Martin

Re: Agave durangensis
I now realize one of my A. durangensis pups looks a lot like A. asperrima as well, but my others do not (see OP).

Re: Agave durangensis
Same agave as post #17
~18 months old with a second summer's growth she is starting to shoot away now, seed grown, currently in 4.5L / ~1 gal pot.

Finally planted in the front yard on the south east side of a desert sage bush to give it some late afternoon shade:

Re: Agave durangensis
Relatively short lived I see. I haven’t sorted and inventoried my million and one agave in containers this spring but I saw my large durangensis made it through the winter with minor burn. We saw several nights in the 20’s, and the worst of 18°F with heavy ice. I threw a plastic tarp over the container agave for that event, so it had some protection/temperature increase.
